Thick Skin and Resiliency: As Necessary as Ink and Paper to Writers

No matter what kind of writer you are, you have to be prepared to have people comment, discuss and critique your writing. In short, you need check your ego and develop a very thick skin and a resiliency. How do you create one?

Building this comes down to a case of when. You have to know when to keep your mouth shut, when to make the case for your work, when to change, when to rethink what you know and and when to filter bogus criticism. And sometimes, that makes it hard to get to the keyboard and write.

That’s why I really like Kristina Kriss’ latest blog entry, Don’t Let the Bastards Get You Down. Kriss sounds like she worked through a very difficult time in a creative writing class, dealt with a lot of negative energy, but   returned to the keyboard and came out better for it. Many people don't, even under less stressful conditions.

It's why I'm ending this post today with her quote: "Don’t let the bastards get you down. Write on!"
