Best in Blog: My Freelance Writer’s Manifesto

Today, a friend of mine asked me about how to start freelance writing. At first, I was a little dumbfounded. I work full-time, but I'm blessed to have a handful of carefully cultivated freelance clients I write for on the side.

But this post from Carol Tice, author of the blog, Make a Living Writing, brought me back. It's a really simple blog post but in it, she provides guidelines for truly living (and giving back) the freelance writing life.

What's interesting about Tice's post is that this year is her five-year anniversary as a freelancer. She doesn't point it out, but if you count back, Tice, a Seattle-based writer, is freelancing during one of the most difficult times for writers. From the U.S. economic slowing down in 2007 and eventually unraveling in 2008 to newspapers and other journals going dark around the same time, Tice managed to thrive and succeed. She's even been named one of the top 10 Writing Blogs of the Year by Copyblogger.

So my hat is off to Tice, who managed to show that even in unusual economic circumstances, there is opportunity for freelance writers.
